Kaufland is one of the fastest-growing marketplaces in DACH — and like every marketplace, it wants product data in its own shape. Here's what the listing needs and how to keep it maintained.
Adding a marketplace is rarely a commercial problem — it's a data problem. Kaufland's marketplace has grown quickly in the DACH region, and retailers who already sell on their own shop and on Amazon or OTTO usually discover the same thing: the products are ready, but the data isn't in the shape Kaufland wants.
One note before the details: marketplace requirements change. Kaufland documents the binding rules, category attribute lists and media specifications in its own seller documentation — treat that as the source of truth and check it before any bulk upload.
Kaufland supports file-based uploads as well as API and partner integrations. The right route depends less on preference than on volume and change frequency: a handful of stable listings can live with a file, while a changing assortment across several channels quickly makes manual files the bottleneck.
The recurring causes are familiar: a missing or invalid identifier, a category attribute that wasn't filled, an image that doesn't meet the spec, or variant data that isn't consistent. It's worth being precise about the diagnosis, because almost none of these are upload problems — they are source data problems that only become visible at upload.
That distinction matters: fixing them in the upload file fixes one upload. Fixing them in the source fixes every channel at once.
If you sell on Kaufland, Amazon and OTTO, you are maintaining the same products in three different shapes. Each marketplace defines its own categories, mandatory attributes and media rules. Editing a separate file per marketplace works until the assortment changes — then every change has to be made three times, and the versions drift apart.
The scalable pattern is the opposite: keep one complete, consistent product record, check completeness centrally, and generate the channel-specific export each marketplace expects.
Productbay holds that single record for multi-brand retailers: supplier data is imported and normalized, gaps are filled with AI enrichment, completeness is visible before you publish, and each channel — Kaufland, your shop, other marketplaces, your ERP — gets its own export from the same data.
